Director's Foreword 2025

Winds of Change

Development in arts, seldom takes place with only a minute of adjustment

Some would call the process, a ‘turning point’ or ‘character development’

In reality, art requires time…

Dear Friends, Partners, Sponsors, Teachers, Families and valued Contestants;

I, on behalf of the West Australian Pianists Competition and its Committee,

welcome you to our 25th annual competition season.

This year is our quarter-century anniversary, and it marks a year of growth and development for our organization. WAPC has come immensely far from its event debut back in 2001, and we intend to take it even further. Our competition has now undergone some adjustments for the better, in preparation for a few substantial areas of expansion in the future.

One particular segment of difference happening this year occurs in one of our competition categories; the Age Group Recital. We decided to merge both the ‘Aged under 15 and 18’, into  one single section; the ‘Aged 16 and under’. This gives students who still commit many hours into their piano studies, a better chance to perform and compete before they begin their last two years of high school. Additionally, we decided to create an ‘Aged 6 and under’ section, which we hope will give younger children more opportunities on the center stage of our competition, and a chance at bigger prizes!

Furthermore, we would love to announce our organization has founded a new partnership with the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts. Much of our visions are aligned, and we will work together to bring West Australia to the international stage of music and piano performance.

Although there are a few more changes, our committee still aims to run the competition in similar fashion to previous years. We undoubtedly hope to upkeep all the positive traits of our event, while actively striving to improve as an organization.

To all our sponsors,

Thank you for your trust and unquestionable support towards this competition.

We could never have come so far without you.

To every contestant and their supporting families and teachers,

We thank you for all the hard work that you have committed into the wondrous art of piano performance. We are honoured that you have chosen our competition and we sincerely wish you much success in this year’s WAPC season.

Let us launch the 25th West Australian Pianists Competition season together, and bear a smile as we look forward to another year of amazing and impeccable performances.

Yours Truly,
 Shuan Hern Lee
