Foreword

It is my honor to be the Director of the Western Australian Pianists Competition.

The competition has helped discover many new talents in piano performance over the past 20 years and is predominantly a piano festival that showcases many top pianists in this region. Having been this competition's participant for countless times in the past, I have come to realize the rarity of this competition's value. Each and every competitor in the past has remembered this opportunity as a unique performance experience that is almost impossible to replicate.

Piano is no doubt one of the most complex instruments with a history of over 300 years. Our competitors over the years have ranged from 4 year old novices to tertiary institutional students in the Open Championship. The exposure and inspiration that this competition has to offer is absolutely second to none, and our passionate organization Committee proudly holds this standard high.

To our esteemed sponsors and affiliates, a few words of gratitude.

Our competition would not be able to pursue such excellence without all of you who provide strong support and vital encouragement for these pianists. West Australian Pianists Competition boasts a high amount of prize money and trophies for the winners this year, and we thank you for the opportunities that you have given our competitors. The hope that you provide will forever be cherished in all their musical career and lives.

To our valued competitors this year, a few words of enlightenment.

This competition is not for the weak hearted. You may encounter many struggles along the way, but it is only through absolute sheer determination that the strong succeed. Music has its own subjective nature that many might not understand, so do not lose heart. No matter what the result may be, the confidence to perform and the preparations you have implemented are what ultimately carries weight towards your progress. Nevertheless, I am sure that many of our sponsors and Committee members would love to see fantastic results and excellent new pianists emerge this year. We will be looking forward to your performances this year.

I would personally like to rally every participant this year, to once again showcase an amazing performance and absorb as much experience and knowledge as you can from this extraordinary event.

See you on stage!

Yours Truly,
 Shuan Hern Lee
